As a biopic based on an Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who died in Pakistan, is set to release, the question remains whether or not it will face backlash from the country.

Whatever the case may be, Sarbjit director Omung Kumar seems to be fearless.

Upholding the film does not show Pakistan in a bad light, Kumar said, “There is nothing as such in the film that will create backlash. We want to release the film worldwide. The idea is to make Indians and Pakistanis and others realise what happens when an incident like this happens.”

“We are not pin-pointing anyone, there is fault in us also… There is some fault in the system as well,” he added.

The upcoming film starring Randeep Hooda and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles, revolves around the struggles of Sarabjit Singh and his family. It also highlights the efforts of his sister, Dalbir Kaur, to seek justice.

The film also stars Richa Chadha and Darshan Kumar in key roles. It is slated to release on May 20.

  1. I would call it "biopic" only if they had not pictured one side of the story. Film is nothing but distortion of facts. Sarbjit Singh was an Indian spy who was convicted by court of law in Pakistan after he confessed to planting a bomb under a bicycle seat that killed 18 Pakistani citizens. He was sentenced to death by a court of a law but penalty couldn't be implemented for certain reasons. However, he was killed by a fellow prisoner in jail. Dialogues like "Pakisan k log sach nahi jantay" and "Sarbjit Singh jhootay muqadmay mein phansa hai… wo bhi Pakistan mein" are distortion of facts and represent someone's agenda.
