Protesting against the managing director of the Bank of Khyber (BoK), the Peshawar-based journalists Monday called for a judicial commission to investigate irregularities in the bank.

Dozens of journalists on the call of the Khyber Union of Journalist (KHUJ) held a protest demonstration outside the Peshawar Press Club. The protesters said that the BOK MD was involved in corruption in the bank and the government should initiate an enquiry against him besides sacking him from the post.

Chanting slogans against the bank’s MD, the protesting journalists demanded the PTI led-provincial government to take action against the MD who published an advertisement in print media against senior journalist and former president Peshawar Press Club Shamim Shahid in reaction to a news item.

They said that the MD has tried to silence press freedom by publishing an advertisement against the senior journalist. Holing placards inscribed with slogans against MD and slogans in favor of freedom of press, the protesting journalists set a week’s deadline for removing the MD of the BOK otherwise they would launch a series of protests soon.
