Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting today which reviewed different proposals regarding re-organisation and reforms in Punjab Board of Investment and Trade.
Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said that it is the basic responsibility of the board to promote investment and strengthen economy of the province. Therefore, it will have to carry out work with innovation for the promotion of local and foreign investment in the province as Punjab Board of Investment and Trade has a key role in strengthening of economy in Punjab.
Shehbaz Sharif said that a clear roadmap is necessary for achieving the targets for enhancing local and foreign investment. He said that a close contact should be maintained with concerned departments of Punjab government so that achievement of fixed targets could be ensured within the stipulated period.
He said that increase of investment will not only enhance the economic activities but also create new job opportunities, adding that Board of Investment and Trade has to work in an active and vibrant manner for promoting investment and that it should work hard for strengthening the economy of the province.
The chief minister said that he believes in practical steps instead of lip service. He said that result-oriented steps are vital for promoting investment and providing facilities to the local and foreign investors. He said that investment board will have to give results in accordance with the latest demands.
He said that there is a vast scope of investment in different sectors in the province as Punjab Investment Board has to play its active role with regard to promotion of investment in agriculture, industry, livestock, energy and other sectors.
He stressed on the need to work hard for achieving the targets of enhancing exports of the province. He said that the target of investment of private sector will also have to be achieved at all costs in the province till 2018. Chief Executive Officer Board of Investment and Trade Amna Cheema gave a detailed briefing regarding promotion of investment.
Punjab Board of Investment and Trade Chairman Abdul Basit, Planning and Development Chairman, senior officials of Board of Investment and Trade and former Chairman PBIT Pir Saad Ahsan-ud-Din were present on the occasion.
