This article is a work of satire.

In a move that might be challenged by the Competition Commission of Pakistan, the Islamabad Dry-Cleaners association (iDCa) has hiked up the fee structure for the cleaning and ironing of sherwanis.

“hey I’d like to tell the competition commission that nothing collusive is happening here,” said Saeed Wazir, president iDCa. “This is simply a case of market forces acting to drive the price higher and the industry collectively deciding what’s good for it.”

“There is just way too much demand here, with many people depositing their sherwanis with us,” he continued. “This includes not just our regular customer in Bani gala, but also several people whom we didn’t even know had a sherwani in the first place.”

Trade economists have likened the situation to the Californian gold Rush of the 19th century. “Do remember that the person who made the most money out of the gold Rush wasn’t any of the miners,” said professor Zafar afridi of the Quaid-e-azam University economics Department. “But Levi Strauss, the fellow who made comfortable jeans for them to work in.”

“Regardless of how deluded those with sherwanis think they are, it is the dry cleaners that are going to make a killing here,” he added.
