2nd ARY Film Awards : Pakistan’s biggest awards show held in Dubai

The 2nd ARY Film Awards were held in the glittering metropolis of Dubai at the Madinat Arena in Madinat Jumeirah on Saturday, where the who’s who of Pakistani entertainment were either attending or performing.

The first award of the night went to ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ for Best Editing. Best Cinematography went to Farhan Hafeez for ‘Moor’. The AFA for Best Action went to Victor Craft again for ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’. The awards for Best Special Effects (Visual) and Best Background score went to ‘Moor’. ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ won yet again for Best Choreography’. Nabila Maqsood received the AFA for Best Make-Up for ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’. Jazaib Qamar and Munib Nawaz were honoured with the AFAs for Best Costume for the same. The film also won the awards for Best Music, Best Story, Best Screenplay and Best Dialogue.

Films such as the hugely popular ‘Jalaibee’, ‘Shah’, ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’, ‘Jawani Phir Nahin Ani’, ‘Wrong Number’, ‘Manto’, ‘Karachi Se Lahore’ and ‘Moor’ were some of the nominations.

With enthusiastic performances by Lollywood superstars such as Mehwish Hayat, Sohai Abro, Noor Bukhari, Humayun Saeed, Ahmad Ali Butt, Vasay Chaudhry etc, this one is sure to be remembered! Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan also attended the event.

Having being originally scheduled for February 18, it was rescheduled for March 10, before changing once again to April 16 due to severe-weather conditions in UAE. During the ceremony, awards were presented in 29 categories.

Actor Fahad Mustafa hosted the show, along with co-hosts Ahmad Ali Butt, Yasir Hussain and Sana Bucha. Fahad Mustafa previously co-hosted the first ceremony in 2014, which was held in Karachi.

Breaking into the international arena, AFAs ’16 promote Pakistan’s film industry on a much larger scale. Talking about the mega event, ARY Digital Network President and Founder Salman Iqbal said, “We are proud to be the leading force behind the new cinema of Pakistan. I believe that we have a long way to go from here and with each new film, my confidence in our local talent increases many folds. Taking AFA ’16 to the international stage is definitely going to help recognise our talent on a much larger scale. I hope that AFA ’16 will become a stepping stone in creating new opportunities for filmmakers in Pakistan”.

The AFAs ’16 were presented by Tang, powered by L’Oreal Paris and Oye Hoye. Ecostar and Star Marketing were the main sponsors.

The 1st AFAs took place on April 27, 2014 in Karachi. During the ceremony, awards were presented in 29 categories and four special awards were given out honouring the actors, technical achievements and films of 2013.
