Watch Committee constituted to review security of schools

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has constituted an Implementation Watch Committee to review security arrangements of educational institutions in the city.

This committee has been constituted following the directions of Interior Ministry with the sole assignment to keep reviewing security measures of schools, colleges and universities, falling in the jurisdiction of ICT, official source said on Saturday.

He said that Security Inspection Monitoring System (SIMS) has been also designed and developed for real-time monitoring, analysis and reporting security inspection.

Daily Visitor Invigilation System (DVIS) has been designed for schools/colleges to make educational institutions secure from all manifestation of threat and other suspicious activities.

The source said that security guards and Chowkidars have been appointed in the institutions and they perform their duties vigilantly to ensure security of the institutions.

Proper checking of visitors is being maintained and they are allowed to enter the institutions after proving their identity and proper checking.

The staff deputed at security duties is equipped with metal detectors in most institutions and emergency telephone numbers are displayed at prominent places in the institutions.

The source said that instructions have been issued by the government to the administration of private educational institutions for their safety and security in Islamabad which mainly included erecting non-scalable walls (atleast eight feet high); wall topped off with two feet high concertina wire; trained security guards (roof top, gate and stealth placement); metal detectors; walk through gates; CCTV coverage with 15 days memory backup; emergency exits; nomination of chief security officer by each private educational institution and verification of pick and drop services.
