Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Sial presided over a high-level meeting to review the overall law and order situation with special reference to police measures for curbing street crimes in the city.

The home minister while reviewing the current year’s crimes statistics compiled by Karachi police and comparing it with that of CPLC, stressed upon the officers to discharge duties with utmost responsibility and professional acumen. He said that all out efforts should be made to get rid of street crimes. The minister on the occasion issued the following directives to the police: streamline and strengthen coordination with CPLC, start community policing projects in markets, business areas, ensure random snap checking, police picketing, raise/strengthen advance intelligence collection system and ensure targeted action against gangs or individual involved in street crimes and sensitise and educate citizens to provide information to police regarding crimes.

The IGP asked the Addl IG Karachi to raise a “motorcycle squad” for checking street crimes in the city. “Such motorcycle squads be raised at districts level and the selected personnel should be briefed about their responsibility,” he added. He also directed CRO (Criminal Record Office) to devise an efficient system in consultation and coordination of NADRA for keeping biometric record of the arrested accused. He reiterated that the project regarding establishment of police facilitation centers for public convenience/assistance would be completed by July 2016.

  1. If not for the Rangers, the police has miserably failed to curb crimes in the city – hostage to MQM for the last three decades. TV reports say the Bhatta mafia is active again and distributing 'bhatta parchis with a bullet' to shopkeepers and residents alike. If the Police could have contained crimes in Karachi, the IG Sind would not have sacked by the SC of Pakistan.
