PCB to appoint interim coach until final candidate selected, says Shahryar

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan said the board may appoint an interim coach if required while the board continues to assess candidates for the head coach position.

Shaharyar has said that no one has been selected yet, despite certain rumours putting forward a few favourites for the role.

According to local media, PCB is keen to rope in former captain Rashid Latif for the vacant chief selector position.

Rashid had previously accepted the role two years ago but had later declined it as he was unhappy with the interference of then Director Game Development Haroon Rasheed.

The PCB wanted to appoint Mohsin Khan as the chief selector but he declined the role while Shaharyar is not keen on bringing back Moin Khan.

A resolution was passed in the board’s Annual General Meeting of the board stating that government interference in the internal affairs of PCB was not acceptable.

While Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is the board’s Patron, the board feels government interference violates the PCB’s constitution, which is sanctioned and approved by both the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the International Cricket Council.
