Compressed Natural Gas Dealers Association (CNGDA) Chairman Abdul Sami Khan on Thursday demanded of the federal government to equally treat all the provinces and reduce the tax on LNG to five per cent as per the statement of petroleum minister.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Khan said that Sindh was using LNG being purchased from Qatar while Punjab was using natural gas of Sindh due to unavailability of pipeline. Punjab was using Sindh’s local gas as it did not have pipeline for LNG supply, he added.

Khan claimed that Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had promised that whosoever would use LNG, the government would not take gas infrastructure development cess (GIDC) and would charge only five per cent of GST. He said currently Sindh was using LNG but was paying 17 per cent GST along with GIDC, while Punjab was using local gas of Sindh and getting discount by paying only five per cent of GST. “It’s a worst situation for gas industry of Sindh as the provincial government is also not giving any response in this regard,” Khan said.
