The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing of the case regarding election reforms case for an indefinite period.

The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case and remarked that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was seeking more powers but it was not using powers which it already had.

During the course of proceedings, ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob appeared before the bench and stated that the ECP had decided to experience E-Voting in the next general elections. He said that 0.3 million machines would be required for elections.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed asked the ECP Secretary to inform the court that whether the Commission had monitored the election campaign of 2013 or any by-election. He remarked that the ECP was talking about election reforms but it had failed to establish a election campaign monitoring system despite lapse of four years.

The ECP secretary told the court that the election campaign monitoring system was established during by-election in NA-247 constituency.

The court directed the ECP and other respondents in the case to submit comprehensive reports over election reforms and adjourned the hearing.
