The prime minister (PM) should go to the assembly and address the joint session of parliament instead of going to London or somewhere else to diffuse the aftershocks of the Panama Leaks, Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami said in his Channel 24 programme DNA on Tuesday night.

Nizami said the names of over 400 notables would be uncovered in the Panama Leaks in the days to come.

“The next 48 hours are very crucial for the prime minister as well as Imran Khan who is trying to form a grand alliance in order to build pressure on Nawaz Sharif,” he said, and added that Imran Khan is not planning to fight solo this time as he is trying to take onboard all other opposition parties as he moves on Raiwind.

Nizami said the prime minister needs to constitute a committee under the supervision of the finance minister to engage the opposition in a dialogue to avoid any street agitation against him. Moreover, he said, the prime minister must constitute a judicial commission headed by the sitting chief justice of Pakistan to probe the Panama Leaks.

“The prime minister should show restraint and tone down his hawkish ministers especially Ch Nisar Ali Khan, who is launching verbal attacks at the opposition both in the National Assembly and the media.

He said the bad taste in Asif Zardari’s mouth could still be lingering from the time the PM did not bail him out on the issue of Dr Asim Hussain.
