SHC seeks responses from LEAs, govt in missing person cases

Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notices to Director General Rangers Sindh and Inspector General Sindh, directing them to submit their respective comments on the petitions seeking whereabouts of the missing persons.

SHC bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat, took up the petitions filed for the recovery of missing men Ali, who was allegedly picked up by the Rangers on his engagement day and other missing men, Khalid Siddiqui, Muhammad Iqbal and Uzair Ali.

Shabana, the mother of missing Ali, alleged that her son was picked up by the Rangers from Karachi’s Sangolane Lyari area on the day of his engagement on 20th March 2016 and that he has been missing since then.

Separately, Fareeda, the wife of missing Khalid, stated in the petition that her husband was a worker of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) and has been missing since 1st April 2016. She alleged that her husband was picked up by the law enforcers but they are not disclosing his arrest.

In another petition, Zubaida, the wife of missing Iqbal, alleged that her spouse was picked up by the law enforcers on 31st March 2016 and has been missing since then.

Saira Bano, the mother of missing Uzair Ali, submitted her son has been missing since 15th March 2016. She alleged that her son in the custody of law enforcers but they are not disclosing it.

Citing DG Rangers Sindh, IGP Sindh and home secretary as respondents, the petitioners requested the court to direct the respondents to produce the detainees before the court.

After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to deputy attorney general, Sindh advocate general and respondents to file their comments in the next hearings.
