The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday granted protective bail to Pak Sar Zameen Party (PSZP) leader Anees Qaimkhani in Dr Asim’s case of treating terrorists.

Qaimkhani, a former deputy convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, is accused of asking Dr Asim to treat the terrorists of his previous party, who got injured in clashes with law enforcers or their rivals, at Ziauddin Hospital.

The PSZP leader, through his counsel, approached the court seeking protective bail, as according to him, he was innocent and had nothing to do with terrorism. His counsel submitted that the allegations leveled against his client were baseless as Qaimkhani never asked anyone to treat the terrorists. The counsel requested the court to grant protective bail to Qaimkhani.

After hearing the arguments, the SHC bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh approved his protective bail against the surety bonds of Rs 1,00,000 for the period of one week. The accused’s counsel requested the judges to extend the bail period for 15 days; however the court directed them to contact anti-terrorism court.

It is pertinent to mention here that an anti-terrorism court had issued arrest warrants against Anees Qaimkhani for several times but police failed to arrest him.
