Punjab govt to spend Rs 70b on water projects: Shehbaz

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that his government would spend Rs 70 billion on projects of clean water in the province during next two years.

Talking to a private news channel, he said road projects, metro bus service, Technical College and the project of Nawaz Sharif Zarai (Agriculture) University were underway in Multan.

The CM said that Punjab government had initiated a number of development projects in the province that were also producing employment opportunities for the youth.

He said the national projects and orange line train were being opposed by some elite class.

“I am doing politics to serve the masses,” he added.       He said orange line was a national project and neighboring country China had given soft loan for this.

Shehbaz Sharif said that his government had introduced Land Record Management System in the province and termed it as a historical achievement, adding the land record had been computerized now and people of the province got rid  of old patwari system.

To a query, the chief minister said that civil and military leadership was on same page in operation Zarb e Azb for maintaining long term peace in the region.

He said Afghanistan had to improve border security to stop the infiltration of miscreants.

He said Punjab police had made good achievements to control law and order situation in the province.

He termed the Gulshan Iqbal Park incident a tragic event.

Shehbaz said that no one should make point scoring on issue of terrorism, adding there was a need of collective efforts to root out this menace from the country.

He said only the Punjab police made search operations in madaris (seminaries).

He said the government had also taken steps against the persons spreading sectarianism in the province.

To another query, he said the Prime Minister had given comprehensive statement on issue of Panama papers during addressing nation.

He said the children of Prime Minister were doing business abroad and law of the same country allowed them to do so, adding the commission would probe the matter and inform the public about the reality.
