Jamaat-e-Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq on Saturday said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been accused of tax evasion therefore he has no right to set up an enquiry commission to probe the charges against him.
Addressing a minorities’ convention, Siraj said that the House that had elected Nawaz Sharif as prime minister alone had the right to constitute the enquiry commission.
He said the members of the parliament were demanding a commission headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan to probe into the allegations of tax evasion through off shore companies thus causing loss to the public exchequer and award of punishment to the accused. He said that Sharif’s announcement of setting up a commission headed by a retired judge of his choice was unacceptable to the people.
He said the JI had moved a proposal in parliament for constituting a commission comprising persons of integrity for a thorough enquiry into the plunder of public money and award of exemplary punishment to them.
Sirajul Haq offered himself and all JI leaders who had held public offices for accountability.
