Governor signs Sindh Hindus Marriage Bill

Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has signed and accorded his assent to the Sindh Hindus Marriage Bill 2016 passed by the provincial assembly of Sindh on February 15, 2016.

After signatures of the governor, it has become an Act. It would be applicable to all Hindus of the province and shall come into force at once. The objective of this Act is to provide a formal process of registration of marriages for Hindus. According to the Act, such marriages shall be registered with the union council/ward or any other municipal authority where the marriage ceremony took place within 45 days of such ceremony. This Act would have retrospective effect and marriages solemnised before the commencement of the Act may be registered with the concerned officer following same procedure.
