CPEC to improve national economy: Ahsan

Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal has said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project will help overcome the deprivations of the masses.

While addressing a training programme of Sahiwal Coal Power Plant engineers on Saturday, he said that the completion of the CPEC project will boost investment and that national economy will become stronger in the next 15 years and which would usher a new era of development with the influx of investment of billions of dollars.

He said that university campuses will be established in every districts of the country in the next three years.

“Our government had evolved a strategy in 1998 but Pervaiz Musharraf overthrew the government. He did not work on the energy projects and the country saw no major energy project in the last 15 years. Our government has given to priority to the energy sector,” he said.

The minister said that China has made record investment in Pakistan which is highest than any other country Around 35 billion dollars out of 45 billion dollars under the CPEC have been allocated for energy projects and of these, energy projects worth 11 billion dollars will be set up in Sindh and over Rs. 9 billion dollars in Balochistan. These projects will open new avenues for development, he said.
