The production of jeeps and cars witnessed growth of 43.02 per cent in production during the first seven months of the current fiscal year, compared to the corresponding period of last year.
As many as 1,10,035 jeeps and cars were manufactured during July-January (2015-16) compared to the production of 77,176 vehicles during July-January (2014-15), showing a surge of over 43 per cent, according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The production of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) also witnessed positive growth of 137.40 per cent in production by going up from the output of 10,841 units during the last year to 25,736 units during the current year.
The production of motorcycles increased by 18.12 per cent during the period under review. The production of motorcycles stood at 1,182,653 units during the first seven months compared to the production of 10,01,191 units during the corresponding period of last year.
The production of buses increased by 68.34 per cent by going up from 338 units last year to 569 units during the current fiscal year whereas the production of trucks increased by 34.94 per cent from 2,098 units last year to 2,831 units during the current fiscal year.
However, the production of tractors during the period declined by 46.94 per cent by going down from the output of 27,295 last year to 14,482 this year.
On year-on-year basis, the production of jeeps and cars increased by 24.02 per cent by going up from the production of 17,406 units in January 2016 compared to the production of 14,035 units in January 2015.
The production of LCVs increased from 2,082 units during January 2015 to 4,313 units during January 2016, showing growth of 107.16 per cent. The production of motorcycles increased by 23.40 per cent during January 2016. The production of motorcycles in January 2016 stood at 1,79,853 units compared to the production of 1,45,752 units in January 2015.
The production of buses and trucks during the month under review increased by 89.19 per cent and 51.69 per cent respectively compared to the same month of last year.
As many as 70 buses and 505 trucks were manufacture during January 2016 compared to the production of 37 and 333 respectively. However, the production of tractors decreased by 55.01 per cent in January 2016 during which the output was recorded at 1,418 units compared to the production of 3,152 units in January 2015, the PBS data revealed. It is pertinent to mention here that the country’s Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) sector has witnessed growth of 4.12 per cent during the first seven months of current fiscal year (2015 16) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
The quantum index numbers (QIM) of large scale manufacturing industries was recorded at 128.51 points during July January (2015 16) against 123.42 points during same period of last year, revealed data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
