123 HIV positive cases detected in four months

As many as 123 new HIV positive cases have been detected in four months (25 in March 2016 alone) with effect from December 2015 to April 5, 2016, at the HIV/AIDS Treatment & Care Center Larkana and their number has increased from 1,013 to 1,136 which has been registered at the center.

This was revealed in a report of HIV/AIDS Treatment & Care Center established here since 2007. In 2016, 102 new patients were registered out of which 88 were males and 14 females. Out of the 1,136 cases, 880 are males, 187 females, 28 eunuchs and 16 are children.

A total of 97 HIV/AIDS positive people have so far died by 2015 out of which 84 were males, nine females, two eunuchs and two kids. Out of these 1,136 patients, 78 were males and five were females infected with Hepatitis C and 10 were suffering from Hepatitis B including one transgender.

At least 41 persons of these are also suffering from TB including five females and 88 more have been referred to TB DOTS programme for further investigations. Larkana continues to top the list of HIV/AIDS positive cases as it has 604 registered patients, Kambar stands second having 164 cases, Khairpur stands third with 99 cases, Dadu stands fourth having 97 positive cases, Shikarpur 37, Jacobabad 22, Kashmore 15, Sukkur 44, Ghotki 12, Jamshoro 8, Naushehro Feroze 14, Balochistan’s Kalat 6, Jaffarabad 11 and Nasirabad has only one patient.

  1. Since it’s not really sex, why protect. And herein lies the horrific danger. Add to that a desensitized youth and a death sentence that is no longer as looming and we are in a danger zone. Strange religious groups might go around to schools cellotaping kids together to advocate monigamy. I think we need an educative aporoach more anchored in the reality of our snap-chatting, grindr-tinder-loving populace.
