Three dead, 10 injured in Super Highway accident

At least three people died and ten others were wounded on Saturday in a deadly road accident near Karachi, according to local media.

According to police and rescue officials, a passenger coach carrying more than 80 people collided head-on with a trailer on Super Highway near Karachi toll plaza this morning.

The accident left three people dead on the spot with more than 10 others, including women, critically wounded. They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed hospital.

The ill-fated coach was heading to Mansehra city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Karachi.

About cause of the tragic incident, police cited road construction on the highway.

“The coach driver might have lost his control over the vehicle while driving on an under construction portion of highway,” an official of highway police said.

Work is underway on six lanes of the highway to give it the status of motorway. The project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in March 2015.

Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
