National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said Friday that he has nothing to do with the live coverage of the NA session on Pakistan Television (PTV); the state-owned television is permitted to broadcast the session live from its end.
Responding to criticism that the PTV had selectively aired the government’s version while suppressing the opposition’s during its coverage of the NA session, which debated the so-called Panama Leaks, Ayaz said that PTV does not report to him. He said that Ministry of Information permits the channel to broadcast the assembly’s session.
He said that he told Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid to provide equipment for live coverage of the session; however, he had not been told about any coverage which would not be aired, he added.
On the other hand, Rashid released a statement and said that live broadcast can be aired on the directions of the speaker.
