Former Petroleum Minister files bail plea with ATC

Former Petroleum Minister Dr. Asim Hussain, who is facing charges of providing shelter to militants in his private hospital, filed a bail plea with Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), local media reported.

The ATC heard a case against Dr. Asim for allegedly providing medical aid to militants in his private hospital.

In the petition, the former petroleum minister contended that a fake case was registered against him and that he is being victimised. He said that police have also failed to provide any evidence against him.

The ATC issued notice to special public prosecutor seeking his reply on April 18.

Meanwhile, an Accountability Court (AC) has granted permission to Dr. Asim that he can get medical treatment on his own expenses.

During the hearing, his counsel told the court that his client is ‘mentally ill’. He said that doctors have advised him of psychotherapy, whose treatment is not available at Jinnah Hospital.

The AC ruled that Dr. Asim can get medical treatment on his own expenses as per the directives of the medical board.

Prosecutor NAB said that they would implement the recommendation of the medical board and the court’s order.
