The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif among six family members in a case pertaining to alleged illegal wealth stashed abroad.
LHC Judge Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan heard the case. During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner Barrister Iqbal Jaffery maintained that the PM’s family accumulated illegal assets worth billions of Pakistani rupees in foreign countries.
He referenced Panama Papers, leak of a law firm’s documents, which have implicated a number of high-profile persons including members of PM Sharif’s family in offshore companies and accounts.
The petitioner requested the court to order the return of Sharif family’s assets to Pakistan. The court admitted the plea and issued notices to the prime minister among six members of his family.
The LHC has summoned replies from the notified persons on April 18.
