Fawad Khan may have won over the audience and critics with his stellar performance as a homosexual in Kapoor & Sons, but it turns out he wasn’t the first choice for the role!
According to a recent report in Filmfare, the role of Rahul Kapoor was initially offered to Bollywood bigwigs such as Farhan Akhtar, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shahid Kapoor.
And now Karan Johar himself has confirmed that not just three but six actors had rejected Fawad’s role in Kapoor & Sons.
KJo said, “Kapoor & Sons (Since 1921) was a tough film to cast. There was a point when we almost didn’t make it. We kept it on the backburner for over a year. No one was willing to do Fawad Khan’s role,” reports Times of India.
“We went to six actors and after six rejections, I told Shakun Batra (director) that we should drop the idea and he started developing another screenplay.”
“Later, in a flash of thought Fawad came to my mind. I sent him the script, he loved it and said he would do it. Subsequently, I went to Sidharth Malhotra. I was surprised Alia Bhatt agreed to do the role,” he added.
Fawad’s role didn’t only help him garner applause and major fandom in India, but also helped him gain more screen time in KJo’s next, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in key roles.
