The Privatisation Commission has moved a summary for the approval of Rs 858 million as salaries to PSM employees.
The recommendation has been initiated by the Privatisation Commission based on the decision taken by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet in a meeting held on Jan 29 in which ECC directed the PSM management to share a detailed analysis of its salary bill. The Privatisation Commission received the detailed analysis from the PSM management on March 27 after which the Commission recommended the release of salaries for PSM employees.
Privatisation Commission Chairman Muhammad Zubair endorsed the recommendation saying that employee welfare remained a high priority for the government.
“We fully understand the difficult situation, which thousands of employees of PSM are currently facing,” Zubair was quoted as saying. “We are extremely sensitive to the wellbeing of employees of all state owned enterprises listed under the privatisation programme and we fully understand the financial and social implications of families not receiving salaries for months.”
Zubair said the Privatisation Commission is doing its best to provide the employees maximum protection. He said the Commission had played an active role in pushing and recommending salaries for PSM staff on regular basis.
