Convicts’ lawyers allowed access to trial proceedings of military courts

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday ordered for allowing 10 convicts, who have been sentenced by military courts, to get access to the trial proceedings record.

A five-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali took up the case on Wednesday while the convicts were represented by Asma Jahangir and other lawyers. The court while permitting the lawyers to review proceedings record of the military courts directed that they should review the proceedings record in the Attorney General Office, however, they should avoid taking photographs or making notes from the record.

CJ Jamali remarked “this is a sensitive issue. Information regarding proceedings record should not be shared with other lawyers.”

The court also directed the Attorney General to separate the sensitive material from military courts proceedings record.  The hearing of the case was put off till 3rd week of April.
