Ghee, cooking oil production increase by 4.91, 9.22%

Vegetable ghee and cooking oil production during the last seven months of the current financial year witnessed 4.91 per cent and 9.22 per cent growth respectively as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

According to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), about 721,527 tonnes of vegetable ghee was produced during the period from July-January, 2015-16 as compared to 687,759 metric tonnes produced during the same period of last year.

On other hand, about 105,736 metric tonnes of vegetable ghee was produced during the month of January as compared to the manufacturing of 97,763 metric tonnes during the same month of the last financial year.

Meanwhile, cooking oil production also witnessed an increase of 9.22 per cent during the last seven months with about 228,029 tonnes of the commodity produced as compared to 208,775 tonnes during the same period last year, the data revealed.

During the month of January about 32,738 metric tonnes of cooking oil was produced to fulfill the domestic requirements against 29,411 metric tonnes produced during the same month of last year, it added.

The data revealed that production of blended tea registered 14.48 per cent growth as 11,390 tonnes of tea was produced as compared to the production of 71,086 tonnes during the same period last year.

However, wheat and grain milling was reduced by 2.72 per cent during the seven months of the current financial year as it went down from 3,546,995 tonnes to 3,450,531 tonnes.

From July-January, 2015-16 soft drinks production grew by 5.5 per cent as about 1,497,843 liters of soft drinks was produced as compared to 1,425,889 liters during the same period of last year, the report said.

The country’s large scale manufacturing sector has witnessed growth of 4.12 per cent during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (2015 16) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The quantum index numbers of large scale manufacturing industries reached 128.51 points during July January (2015 16) against 123.42 points during same period of last year, the PBS data showed.
