The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday extended the pre-arrest bail of Sindh Chief Secretary Siddique Memon in a case pertaining to embezzlement and corruption.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating the charges of corruption against front-men of corruption mafia in Sindh and reportedly the chief secretary is also under investigation in the said case.
Apprehension of arrest by the country’s top anti-corruption department had forced Memon to approach the court. The NAB had issued a call up notice to the Sindh’s top bureaucrat for investigation against him for allegedly allotting six acres of land in the metropolis illegally as the secretary land revenue in 1992.
According to Memon, he had nothing to do with any corruption or embezzlement and the allegation leveled against him were totally baseless. The SHC bench extended the pre-arrest bail of Memon till May 10, 2016. Earlier in last year, the SHC had approved Siddique Memon’s plea seeking grant of bail before arrest against the surety bonds of Rs 5,00,000.
According to sources, it was decided in the NAB’s meeting held in July 2015 in Islamabad to initiate an inquiry against the Sindh chief secretary.
It is pertinent to mention here that Siddique Memon is not the only bureaucrat of the province who is being investigated on corruption charges as former chairman Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) Hashim Raza Zaidi and Chairman of Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) Abdus Subhan Memon are also under inquiry of the NAB.
