The Election Commission of Pakistan ordered deployment of the Paramilitary Rangers at the polling stations in the by-elections for NA-245 and PS-115, local media reported on Sunday.

The ECP also decided deployment of military troops in the by-elections for NA-267.

The decision comes a day after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan demanded of the ECP to deploy the paramilitary troops in NA-245 by-elections after his party’s election campaign camp was attacked at Karachi’s Five Star Chowrangi.

In a letter dispatched to interior ministry, the ECP has asked deployment of Rangers personnel outside and inside the polling stations in the by-polls for NA-245 and PS-115 scheduled for April 7.

Reports said that ECP also decided to deploy military at the polling stations in the by-elections for NA-267 scheduled for April 28. The ECP has written a letter to Defence Ministry in this regard.

  1. This was necessary since in last elections in NA 246, also MQM had attacked TI camps and harassed the workers whihc they repeated again in NA 245 yesterday in Karachi. At Government level, the MQM is in a embassing position but not in the streets as yet. They will retain the power to destroy on the back of the Rangers.
