Scores of citizens on Saturday held a protest demonstration in front of Lahore Press Club (LPC) against connivance of lawyers and land mafia who have grabbed a 4 kanal land of graveyard in Manzoor Colony, Taj Bagh Scheme.
Protesters demanded Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) to take suo moto notice of the connivance of land grabbers and lawyers who were allegedly misusing names of judges of Cantt Court.
Protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against lawyers and land grabbers who had occupied the land spared for graveyard.
While talking to Pakistan Today, they blamed advocate Naseer and his companions Nadeem, Naeem and others for grabbing the land fraudulently and selling it to some other party in fake documents. They said that the said land for graveyard was announced by Settlement Commission and it was owned by the Auqaf department.
Protesters said that PMLN MNA Sohail Shoukat Butt had also announced a package of rupees three million for development purpose.
They further said that residents of area collectively stood against the grabbers and reported in police station. “Despite lodging an FIR, police remained reluctant to arrest any accused” protesters said adding that accused using their influence lodged an encounter FIR in Northern Cantt Police Stattion against the innocent residents.
They also alleged that the land mafia illegally detained a number of residents including Muhammad Muneer, Muhammad Idrees, Shafqat and others for hours. They forced to withdraw FIR against them and pressurised them to stay out of the issue, the protesters told Pakistan Today.
They also blamed that main accused advocate Naseer, that he was backed by his brother who was sitting judge in Cant Courts.
Protesters burnt the tyres and blocked the road for every type of traffic which added problems to the commuters.
