The local administration of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has barred public transporters from operating in all districts of the region towards Rawalpindi as there is no security on the Karakoram Highway.

Due to closure of the service, hundreds of passengers have been stranded at different places and it is feared that if the situation persists, there will be scarcity of basic need items in GB.

In recent years after terrorist attacks on buses on the way, public transporters were allowed to travel only in convoys and under security.

Last month three wanted terrorists were killed by security forces in an operation in the Tarel valley near Chilas. The terrorists killed were involved in attacks on security forces, tourists and public transport.
