Chinese delegation meets Salman Rafiq

A 23-member delegation of China Cultural Heritage Foundation (CCHF), which is currently on a visit to the provincial metropolitan, met Adviser to the Chief Minister on Health, Khawaja Salman Rafique at Civil Secretariat on Friday.

Secretary Primary and Secondary Health, Ali Jan Khan, Additional Secretary Admin, Adnan Zafar, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Sulman Shahid, Deputy Secretary Medical Education Dr Nasir Shakir, Director General Nursing Nusrat Saeeda, representative of World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Khalid Saeed Bukhari and other officers were present on the occasion.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the expansion of cooperation between Punjab health department and the Chinese institutions in health sector.

Secretary Primary and Secondary Health, Ali Jan Khan and Adnan Zafar briefed the delegation on the steps taken by the government for the development and improvement of primary and secondary healthcare for provision of quality healthcare to the people of far-flung areas.

During the meeting, both sides discussed to introduce traditional Chinese medicines in Punjab as an alternate system of medicine. The President CCHF Ms. Geng Jing said that traditional Chinese medicines are very affective and economical, which would be beneficial to the poor.

WHO representative Dr Khalid Saeed Bukhari said that various Chinese treatment system including acupuncture are already popular in Pakistan.

Regarding setting up of the Chinese Traditional Medical College in Punjab, Salman Rafique said that Health Department and the officials of CCHF would work jointly to make a way forward.

He said that a working group consists of the officers of Punjab Health Department, representative of WHO and Chinese representatives should be constituted to explore the corridors of cooperation in this field.
