RCB residents at risk of epidemic diseases

Residents of the Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas are at great risk of catching contagious and epidemic diseases as the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board has failed to collect and dispose of garbage and trash that could be seen strewn at every nook and corner.

With heaps of garbage, household waste along with wastes from different hospitals or clinics is scattered in different places. Area residents are highly exposed to different kind of hazards.

Areas including Naseerabad, Johar Pul, Golra Mor, Peshawar Road and other adjourning areas as the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company are filled with waste and the RCB Sanitation Department have failed to collect garbage on time.

Anjum, a resident of Naseerabd area, said that a few years back her children freely roamed and played in playgrounds and parks, however, now dirt and garbage have occupied these places shrinking recreational places for the residents.

Several residents complained that though the Waste Management Company and the Sanitation Department charge them for collection of garbage they throw it at dumping points near residential areas.

Besides garbage dumps, encroachments have also been made alongside Nullah Ley in areas including Javed Colony, Nadeem Colony, Gawalmandi, Amarpur, Dhok Rata, Dhok Hassu and other adjourning areas which may further aggravate the situation in the peak monsoon season.

The residents have demanded that the authorities take notice of the issue and issue instructions for removing garbage.
