The Supreme Court has ordered to release on bail a man accused of snatching coriander costing Rs1,000 in Sahiwal.

The accused, Afzal Khurram, who has been languishing in jail for the last one year had filed a bail application.

When a two-member SC bench Justice Gulzar Ahmad case was taken up on Thursday, judge Qazi  Faez Isa remarked “it is matter of surprise that the accused involved in offence of one thousand rupees is still in jail while those involved in major crimes are roaming freely and no one is there to lay hand on them”.

Siddique Khan Baloch, who appeared on behalf of the accused, told the court that his client was facing the charges of snatching coriander worth Rs1,000. He was also charged with possessing a pistol and a rifle. The police have failed to prove the charge. He added that despite that the trial court and the high court did not accept his bail plea.
