An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday dismissed the bail application of an accused in connection with the Kasur child abuse case.

ATC judge Chaudhry Muhammad Ilyas conducted the hearing of the bail application, filed by accused Ateequr Rehman.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that the police had implicated his client in two cases registered in connection with the abuse case. He pointed out that his client was acquitted in a case referred to the Kasur sessions court after the Anti-Terrorism Act charges had been dropped by the court.

The counsel said that in the other case, the accused had been charged with hurling threats only and no other allegations were levelled against him. He requested the court to issue orders for the release of the accused on bail, arguing that the police had failed to produce any evidence against him.

However, the deputy prosecutor opposed the request, submitting that the accused was found guilty during investigations and that the police did have evidence against him.

The court, after hearing arguments of the parties, dismissed the bail application of the accused.
