Revealed: The fate of Theon Greyjoy

British actor Alfie Allen — who plays Theon Greyjoy in the popular fantasy drama series Game of Thrones — has revealed the fate of his character, as well as that of Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner. The 29-year-old set the opening scene for Theon and what fans can expect from him in the show’s upcoming sixth season.

“At the beginning of season six, you find him running through snowy, freezing forests, leading the way with Sansa. They’ve just jumped off the wall at Winterfell and now they’re on the run from Ramsay Bolton,” Allen said in a statement. He also described the day of the shoot, calling it an “incredible” experience. “We got there on the first day at Bambridge Studios and they’d blanketed this whole area with fake snow,” he said. “Everywhere, all the trees — it’s all done with this amazing snow. And we’re running through and we come to a river and Sansa is just too scared to get into it so I get in. Don’t believe the press shots! It looks like she’s trying to get me out of the river, when I’m actually trying to be the strong one and get her in.”

When asked if he is prepared to sacrifice himself for Turner’s character, Allen said, “Theon sacrifices himself because I guess he hasn’t really got much worth or meaning for himself in the world anymore. And so he leads them away — or rather that’s what he’s trying to do.”

Talking about actor Gwendoline Christie’s character Brienne of Tarth, he added, “In fact, Theon doesn’t lead them away because they see Sansa anyway. Then Gwendoline Christie turns up and smashes everyone.”

The actor gave further information on Theon’s fate for the forthcoming episodes. “He does stab a guy in the back with a sword,” Allen revealed. “He kills someone for the first time in ages, which must be a gratifying experience.”

The sixth season of Game of Thrones is slated for a global release on April 24.
