Jamaat e Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq has welcomed the success of the talks between government and pro-Qadri protesters in the federal capital and said that the government should honour its commitments with the protesters.
In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that the general impression among the masses was that government had never cared to fulfill its promises. The government had not fulfilled its promises to the people made during the election campaign even after three years, he said.
The JI chief stressed that implementation of the Islamic laws must be ensured and the rulers should abandon the talk of secularism and liberalism in the country. He appreciated the government for its assurance on not amending the blasphemy law and not showing any leniency towards those guilty of blasphemy.
Meanwhile, the JI chief, accompanied by members of the sub-committee for Senate Development and Planning Committee, Senator Dr. Khwaja Karim and Senator Mohsin Leghari, visited the area affected by the sea water in Sajawal.
During briefing, the committee was informed that the sea water had swallowed about two lakh acres of the area and the lives of the residents of the area were under serious threat. It was told that fishing had been the main source of earning of the local people but due to the mixing of the sea water, the sub soil water of the area had also gone sour and thousands of fishermen had lost their source of income.
Talking to the local people, Sirajul Haq said there was urgent need for short term as well as long term planning for saving the area from the sea water. He said that the government had so far not given any line of action to safeguard the interests of the fishermen and those affected by the sea water nor had collected any data in this respect. He assured the local people that he would take up their problems in Senate.
The JI chief said that the people of Sindh had been slaves of the status quo and the feudal lords adding that the rulers had made their lives miserable. He said that the present system of tyranny and exploitation would continue until the masses stood up against it.
