At the CCI meeting the Sindh chief minister said there was not enough water in the system to build a third dam, yet we are going ahead with Bhasha dam which will have no tributary rivers flowing into it, only snow melt from the glaciers, while Kalabagh dam will have five tributary rivers – Kabul, Chitral, Swat, Haro and Soan flowing into it plus the monsoons, but we say there is not enough water to build it and are quite happy to let all this water play havoc with south Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan every year and escape to the sea, almost 30 million acre feet of it.
He also said there was no mention of a dam in the Water Accord of 1991, but the Award clearly mentions equal share of 37% for both Punjab and Sindh in future storages, what future storages could the Award be talking of? In fact, the very purpose of the Water Accord was to develop consensus on Kalabagh dam, and not just to increase Sindh’s share by reducing Punjab’s share.
