Launch of operation in Punjab a good omen: Khursheed Shah

Says launching of operation in Punjab proves there are terrorists’ cells operating in the province

Opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA) Syed Khursheed Shah has said that the launch of an operation against terrorists in Punjab is a good omen.

“I have been saying for a long time that terrorist nurseries exist in Punjab and an operation should be launched against them forthwith. But no one paid attention to our calls. It’s the consequence of this negligence that we have not gotten rid of the menace of terrorism,” Shah said, and added, “Launching of operation by forces in Punjab bears testimony to the fact that networks of terrorists are operating here. The dream of weeding out terrorism cannot be realised unless the rulers think of it as being above politics.”

“We conducted an operation against terrorists with full force during our tenure by shunning our political advantage. The nation bears witness that the terrorists along with certain forces kept us from election campaign. But we are now right in saying that we took effective steps against them. Today not only innocent and precious lives are being sacrificed to muster support of rightists but also the sanctity of parliament and superior judiciary is being trampled. Government’s writ is also being challenged,” he remarked.

He went on to say that “we will fight against terrorism on every front. Our forces are achieving unprecedented success in fight against terrorism. They will root out terrorism from Punjab as well”.

“Had the government taken a timely action against terrorists, Lahore Public park terror incident would not have taken place,” he said, and added, “Terrorists are enemies of Pakistan, Islam and national security and it is the shared responsibility of all of us to eliminate such enemies.
