Nuclear Summit to discuss evolving threats, highlight steps to minimise use of highly-enriched uranium
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will leave for London Monday before traveling to the US to attend a nuclear security conference.
Prime Minister Sharif will represent Pakistan at the fourth Nuclear Security Summit to be held in Washington on Thursday.
The summit will discuss the evolving threats and highlight steps to minimise the use of highly-enriched uranium.
Pakistan is one of 53 states, besides four international observers – the United Nations, the International Atomic Energy Agency, Interpol and the European Union -invited to be part of the NSS process.
The summit offers an opportunity for Pakistan to project its credentials in the nuclear security field.
During his two-day stay in London the premier will meet the Pakistani community and apprise them of the development works being carried out in the country.
The prime minister is expected to meet President Barak Obama and other world leaders on the sidelines of the summit. A source at the Prime Minister’s Office said the premier will apprise Obama and other US officials of India’s interference in Pakistan, especially in Balochistan and Karachi. The source ruled out PM Sharif’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the summit.
