Punjab implementing horticulture promotion programme: CM

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the government is implementing a comprehensive programme for the promotion of horticulture in the province, adding that the development projects have been beautified through horticulture. Plants and flowers increase the beauty of cities and control pollution, he said.

The chief minister said that flowers and plants need to be given proper care and a public awareness campaign should be launched in this regard. He said that the project of setting up digital libraries in parks should immediately be implemented, and directed the authorities to evolve a plan to establish a digital library in every park of the province.

He was addressing a meeting at the Civil Secretariat through video link here on Saturday. The meeting reviewed the matters related to the beautification of cities through horticulture and developing recreational places and new grounds for promotion of sports activities among the youth. The meeting decided to establish horticulture and landscape training institute while approval was given for tree plantation along the 40-kilometre-long railway track from Shahdara to Raiwind.

Shehbaz Sharif said that horticulture is enhancing the beauty of big cities. He directed that immediate measures should be taken for the implementation of fruit gardens project as it will provide new creational facilities to the citizens. Giving approval to tree plantation programme along the railway track from Shahdara to Raiwind, the chief minister directed that measures should also be taken for promotion of recreational activities along the track. He further directed that a horticulture plan should also be evolved for Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project.

Shehbaz Sharif while giving approval to the project of horticulture and landscape training institute, directed that a steering committee should be formed to propose immediate measures for establishing this institute. He said that playgrounds and recreational spots will be made in every area for promoting recreational activities among the youth. He directed the immediate completion of the process to identify land for new recreational spots.
