Exports promotion linked with payment of refunds: TDAP

Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SM Muneer said that promotion of exports was linked to immediately paying stuck up refund to achieve export target of USD 35 billion in the next three years.

In a statement issued on Friday, SM Muneer said that the trade policy was according to ground realities and aspirations of the business community and realising the export target was linked to the prompt payment of refunds to the tune of Rs 210 billion.

He said that exporters were passing through difficult times due to held up refunds despite the fact that top government functionaries had assured payment of refunds to exporters soon. The TDAP CEO lauded the government for allocating Rs 20 billion to achieve target and demanded that Rs 6 billion allocated for ongoing year should be disbursed immediately.

He said besides refunds, continuous and uninterrupted supply of gas and electricity to industrial sector could help achieve export target.

All the economic indicators of Pakistan are positive and it is foreseen that current GDP growth of 4.2 per cent will go beyond five per cent at the end of current financial year, he said. SM Muneer asked all the concerned departments to facilitate exporters by providing enabling environment so that they can play their due role in the national development with peace of mind.
