Oil tankers association on Thursday cut off supply to Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for nonpayment of pending dues.

All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association (APOTOA) Vice Chairman Shamas Shehwani said that the state owned enterprise owes them Rs 20 million. PSO has always swept the issue under the carpet whenever it was brought up in the past, he added.

He said that supply of oil to the state company has been suspended with immediate effect as part of protest.

Another association of the oil tanker owners, however, has washed their hands of the protest and is continuing the supply.

The last major supply cut came in August 2015 when APOTOA suspended supply to all the cities. The association was protesting against the imposition of Rs 30,000 sales tax per tanker.

Chairman of the association Haji Akram Khan Durrani had said at the time that the oil sector was already burdened with various taxes and would not be able to endure more.
