Pakistan’s men team turned out to be a disappointment for fans during the World T20 2016, but the women’s team has stepped up to become one of the strongest contenders at the event.
The women’s team has already beaten rivals India and Bangladesh, and skipper Sana Mir is confident that the men’s team will also be able to perform well. Talking to the media in a post-match press conference on Thursday night after 9 wicket win over Bangladesh, Mir said:
“We are getting such a positive feedback back home after these remarkable performances and in the meanwhile our prayers are with the men’s team as well.”
“I hope they [men team] also give the fans reasons to smile,” she added, admitting that the women cricket team has never received this kind of support in Pakistan before and girls are enjoying this to the best.
Responding to a query about the upcoming match against series favourite: the England Women, the Pakistani skipper said that we are not afraid of any team here as cricket is played in the ground not on paper.
On the occasion, she also thanked the charged Indian crowd which chanted “Pakistan Jeetayga [Pakistan will win]” slogans during the match against Bangladesh. It is highly welcoming to play in a country where people come to watch you play and extend their support, she said.
Earlier, after win against India Sana Mir and Pakistan Women team dedicated the victory to the parents who let their girls play cricket in Pakistan -in a short video message to fans.
