RAW hand exposed in Balochistan

Pakistani intelligence agencies on Thursday claimed to have made a major breakthrough in exposing the role of India’s premier intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), in fomenting terrorism in Balochistan, as a serving Indian military official deputed in the infamous spy agency was reportedly taken into custody from the province three days ago.

According to intelligence sources, Kulbushan Yadav is a Colonel-level officer in the Indian Navy and was present in Balochistan on a RAW spy mission.

“Yadav was arrested in a raid three days ago. He has now been shifted to Islamabad for interrogation, as he is suspected of involvement in various acts of terrorism and other subversive activities in Balochistan,” said the sources, who added that the Indian spy was acting as a handler for Baloch militants and was also involved in acts of sectarian terrorism and terror attacks in Karachi.

Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti confirmed the arrest of the Indian spy from the southern part of the province.

“The arrest has proved Indian involvement in Balochistan,” Bugti said, adding that intelligence agencies had concrete evidence that Yadav was sponsoring terrorist and subversive activities in Balochistan.

The Pakistani government has repeatedly said that RAW and Afghan intelligence agency, the National Directorate of Security (NDS), are behind the funding and training of Baloch militants.

On Oct 3, 2015, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz had submitted a dossier to the office of the secretary general of the United Nations on Indian interference and support to terrorism in Pakistan.

The dossier, a set of three documents titled India’s interference and support to terrorism in Balochistan, FATA and Karachi through TTP, was handed over to the Chief of Staff Susana Malcorra by Pakistan’s Ambassador the United Nations Dr Maleeha Lodhi, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Aziz had then said that each dossier comprised 15-20 pages and added that further discussion on UN action on the documents would take place later. He said the documents contain “solid proofs” and their content may be shared in due course of time.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had also told the press earlier that the dossier containing proofs of New Delhi’s interference would be handed over to the UN.

The prime minister had said that he had planned on handing over the dossier to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi directly, but that meeting did not take place.

In his speech to the UNGA, Nawaz said, “Wisdom dictates that our immediate neighbour refrain from fomenting instability in Pakistan. The two countries should address and resolve the causes of tension and take all possible measures to avert further escalation.”
