Around 200 MPhil and PhD scholars who were sent abroad by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) have not returned to the country after the completion of their education.
“In the last five years, the HEC disbursed 4,212 local and foreign scholarships among the students and 200 of them availed foreign scholarships,” a source in the HEC told Online.
According to the source, the HEC was still hoping that the scholars may return, however, they have neither responded to the notices issued to them nor have they informed Pakistani embassies in their respective countries about their homecoming.
The source said that some of the students slipped after they availed the first installment of the scholarship and they may have settled in the countries where they had gone,leaving the HEC authorities in a perplexed situation.
The source said that HEC has been sending notices to the missing scholars, but they have not been in contact for years.
