The World Water Day was observed in the city on Tuesday with the theme “Water and Jobs” focusing on how enough quantity and quality of water can change people’s lives and livelihood.
The Punjab Environment Protection Department arranged a seminar in connection with the day at the Punjab Institute of Language, Art & Culture (PILAC), which was chaired by Provincial Minister for Environment Protection Beghum Zakia Shahnawaz.
In her address, Zakia Shahnawaz said development of the country and growth of agriculture depend on water resources because no nation could achieve progress without water.
Lahore College for Women University Department of Environmental Sciences Faculty of Natural Sciences Dean Dr Kausar Jamal Cheema, Punjab Saaf Pani Company Chief Technical Officer Dr Zaheer and Adnan Adil gave a detailed presentation on the importance of water.
The day is observed to learn more about water related issues, focusing attention on importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of water resources.
The United Nations General Assembly designated March 22, 1993 as the first World Water Day to highlight the importance of this vital resources. The day has been observed annually since then.
