A newly-wed bride succumbed to her wounds on Tuesday after she was doused in petrol and set ablaze by her husband for failing to bring a motorbike as part of her dowry. Police have arrested the accused.

Madiha, 22, had married Amir two months ago. She was often beaten up by her husband for not being able to bring a motorbike as dowry, her family said.

Four days ago, her husband and in-laws doused her in petrol and set her on fire. She was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition. Madiha battled for her life for four days but breathed her last on Tuesday morning.

The burnt woman hailed from the Pasrur district. She died in the ICU at Jinnah Hospital Lahore.

The family registered an FIR against the husband and in-laws after which the police arrested Amir, but her mother-in-law and father-in-law fled.

  1. What a sick twisted culture?… killing a family member over a motorbike?… these people are despicable….

  2. The ground reality is there is no border there and I presume all POK and IOK residents " enjoy dual nationality" except in Ladakh and Jammu. Poors cross border(?) in search of work and wood fuel. Besides, valley is hived with foreign gunmen and India has made a "political business" out of it..
