Pakistan Day to be celebrated in city with zeal

Pakistan Day will be celebrated with national zeal and traditional festivity across the provincial capital on Wednesday.

The day will be started with special prayers in mosques for the peace and progress of Pakistan while religious scholars will highlight significance of the occasion in their sermons.

The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) following the instructions by the Punjab government has finalised a comprehensive plan to celebrate the day in a befitting manner. A national parade will be held from the Liberty roundabout to Jail Road in which officials of police, civil defence, scouts and college students will participate.

Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) will organise a Grand Fleet March comprising floats, branded buses and machinery across the city. The LWMC ID fleet will visit landmarks i.e. Egerton Road, Chairing Cross, Minar-e-Pakistan.

Several activities including hoisting of national flags, setting up of camps will be part of the celebrations.

Punjab University Directorate of Students Affairs will organise an event on Tuesday at Faisal Auditorium, New Campus. The purpose of the celebrations is to pay homage to Father of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other leaders of the Pakistan movement. On this occasion, students will present national songs, tableaus, speeches and National Anthem.

According to the sources of the district administration, wreaths will be laid on graves of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal and the martyred of security forces who sacrificed their lives for national defence and sovereignty.

Punjab government, in collaboration with National College of the Arts (NCA), Punjab University, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and other institutions organised a three-day drawing and painting competition at Al Hamra to highlight the struggle for the creation of Pakistan. A large number of participants from these institutions displayed their artwork.  This exhibition will continue till March 23.

Banners and posters inscribed with statements about the Pakistan resolution, the Independence Movement and establishment of Pakistan will be displayed at all main roads and chowks. The Alhamra Arts Council will organise stage play, paintings exhibitions, speech and national songs competitions among students of educational institutes and seminars in collaboration with NGOs.

All major religious and political parties including PML-N, PTI, JI, PPP, JUP and others will organise functions to mark the day with nation zeal.
