Committee prepares recommendations for implementation of Urdu as official language

Special committee set up by Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for implementation of orders of Supreme Court to introduce Urdu at government level in the country has formulated various recommendations, which include writing of name plates of officials and displaying pages of website of government departments in Urdu language.

Committee Convener and Provincial Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed presided over a meeting at Lahore Education Board, here today. He told that the chief minister wants to immediately transfer the benefit of use of Urdu language in government affairs to the people of the province.

He said that the role of educational institutions in promotion of Urdu language and its use in government offices is very important adding that instructions have been issued to all public universities to hold seminars and workshops for creating awareness about Urdu.

The meeting was told that as the websites are seen and read at international level, changing these websites in Urdu is not appropriate. However, every webpage of all government departments must be in English as well as in Urdu.
